What is the use of Removable Skate Frames?

An inline frame is an Aluminium, Magnesium, Carbon, Bamboo or composite material designed to mount the wheels and bearings underneath the skate boot. Many quality modern inline skates are designed with a removable set of frames to suit a variety of reasons, such as;

  1. The main advantage of a removable frame is it’s ability to be slightly adjusted in position under the skaters feet. This can help combat a variety of foot related issues. Remember, no matter the design of the skates, some feet issues need to be checked by a podiatrist and may require custom orthodics or surgery to correct.
  2. You can replace the frame if it gets damaged. Bent frames are rare but it does happen and it would be a waste of a good set of boots. Also, it is possible to damage frames by over tightening axles, which can lead toward damaged threads.
  3. Sometimes the skater may want to change to a shorter or longer frame. This can offer a change in performance. In the past many slalom skaters have enjoyed short frames as they offer the tightest turning abilities. However, these days many skaters opt for frames that can take a larger wheel for a smoother roll.
  4. You can experiment with other frame designs such as bigger wheel diameters, testing out the new tri-skate setups, and even popping on an ice-blade to give ice skating a try.
  5. Sometimes a new frame, even in a different colour is a way of refreshing your setup and adding a newfeel to your beloved boots. Because once you find a boot that fits well you will hate to leave it.
